Licensing
Acupuncture is regulated by the Maine Department of Professional and Financial Regulation, Office of Licensing and Registration.
All acupuncturists are required to be licensed in the State of Maine. Requiremtents for licensure are that a practioner must be at least 21 years old, hold a Baccalaureate Degree, meet requirements for 1000 acupuncture classroom and 300 acupuncture clinic hours, and obtain NCCAOM (National Certifying Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) certification.
In addition, licensed acupuncturists must complete 30 credits of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in every two-year license renewal cycle.
