CLASSICAL FIVE ELEMENT ACUPUNCTURE
Bill Schecher, L.Ac.
I was born and raised in New York. I have always had one foot in one world and one in another. Growing up, I was interested in music, theater, and art of nearby New York City on the one hand, and the marshes, ocean and wildlife of southern Long Island on the other - civilization on one side and nature on the other. My adult life is no different. My first career was as an engineer creating software models to help understand a wide range of environmental issues. This was a world of pragmatism and rationality. Now, as an acupuncturist, I am still interested in what is useful and rational, but it is tempered by an interest in what motivates all of us to life and health.  In my own healing process, I came to understand that the classical Chinese approach to treatment had its own methodical and logical system, one that was culturally different than the one I had learned as an engineer, but nevertheless down to earth and knowable. As I began to see my own symptoms lift, I also began to see the profound insights that this system offered about the human condition - about our struggles, virtues and weaknesses, and the way that it all plays into how we arrive at balance or imbalance in life. It is my belief that at our deepest level, we all are in a struggle for a life that is meaningful and connected to something larger than ourselves.

I live with my wife, Libby, our black lab, Bay, and two cats.
